Thank you and Happy Retirement Joan

We had a lovely morning on Friday celebrating Joan as she completed her final day as Lollipop Lady at Mary, Mother of Hope.

Joan has been with us for 19 years and has guided hundreds of children safely across the road both morning and afternoon with a warm smile and kind word. On Friday morning the children made a guard of honour, cheered Joan and thanked her as she made a final walk through the campus.

Thank you Joan. Wishing you all the best on your retirement. Enjoy every minute!

Seachtain na Gaeilge Fun & Lá Glas

We had a fabulous time in school over the last week celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge. The boys and girls completed many fun and exciting activities in their classes and together as a whole school to celebrate the Irish language and Irish traditions.

We hope you all have a lovely St Patrick’s Day weekend with your family and friends.

Click on the image to see some photos of our celebrations.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Dear Parents,

Seachtain na Gaeilge

We are currently preparing for Seachtain na Gaeilge  (Irish Language week) in our school and there are lots of lovely things happening for the children.

Children are learning additional songs, poems and dances as Gaeilge and we have had a focus on Gaeilge in assembly. We are making a big effort to speak more Irish to each other – I’m sure your child can teach you some phrases!

The children are busy playing games, singing and making art to celebrate ‘Seachtain na Gaeilge’ and the school is decorated with beautiful creative pieces.

We will enjoy some traditional Irish Music from a Banna Ceol (Band) on Tuesday and a Grúpa Tradisiúnta (Traditional Music Group) on Thursday.

Children will share the traditional dances they have been learning at our Céilí Mór (Irish Dance) on Thursday afternoon.

Younger children are playing Bingó through Irish while the older children are taking part in a Tráth na gCeist (Quiz). 1st and  2nd Class children have been invited to a Seo Faisean (Fashion Show) in the Senior school too.

We are really enjoying celebrating the Irish Language and Culture with the children. We would ask you to support us by praising your child if he/she speaks Irish. You could ask your child Conas ata tú?’(how are you). Other simple phrases include maidin mhaith (good morning) , oíche mhaith (good night), Dia Duit (Hello), Slán (Goodbye). A good starting point is the Irish Language Television Station TG4 which shows cartoons as Gaeilge. www.cula4.com

Lá Glas (Green Day) & Funky Hair Day

As part of the celebrations we would like to invite the children to wear something green/white/orange or a combination of these colours on Thursday March 16th.

We are combining this event with our annual Funky Hair Day organised by the Parent Association so feel free to be as creative as possible! A contribution of €2 per child towards school funds would be greatly appreciated. This can be paid through Aladdin. Please note that children do not have to dress up if they do not want to!

I would like to thank Mrs Cullen and all those who have been involved in organising our Seachtain na Gaeilge, events. We hope that you, as parents will also support your children- bain triall as! (Give it a try!)

Le gach dea ghuí, (with every good wish)
